Aftercare

There are two methods I use to heal tattoos, I leave the choice up to the client. My go-to is healing with Recovery Derm Shield, which is a latex-free matte film adhesive bandage. It provides optimal conditions for flawless healing. The second method is the traditional way of healing a tattoo. Saran Wrap, Aquaphor, antibacterial soap. Please follow the care instructions that fit you.

HEALING WITH DERM SHIELD

  • Before you leave the shop I will apply the first piece of Derm Shield, you will leave with the second piece

  • Leave the first Derm Shield on for 24 hours, it is normal for plasma to build up underneath creating a puddle or pool of plasma

  • Remove Derm Shield in the shower peeling from top to bottom at a 45 degree angle

  • Using CLEAN HANDS wash your tattoo with antibacterial soap, I suggest Dial GOLD, making sure to remove any ink or plasma. It may be “slimy” from plasma, this is normal.

  • Pat dry and let air dry completely. DO NOT APPLY LOTIONS OR OINTMENTS TO THE TATTOO AT THIS TIME

  • Once completely dry apply the second Derm Shield by removing the paper backing and apply so there is 1-2 inches of space from the edge of the tattoo to the edge of Derm Shield. Once in place remove the plastic backing

  • Leave second Derm Shield on for 4-5 days

  • Once the second Derm Shield is removed apply unscented lotion, I recommend Eucerin Intensive Repair, 3 times a day until your tattoo is completely healed

  • Once your tattoo is healed apply SPF 30 sunscreen to protect your tattoo daily

HEALING TRADITIONALLY

  • Leave the seran wrap on your tattoo for 2 hours, if the wrap sticks to your skin apply luke warm water to remove it

  • Use CLEAN HANDS to wash the area gently with an antibacterial soap, I recommend Dial GOLD. Make sure to remove any excess blood, ink, or ointment (Wash tattoo 2-3 times daily)

  • Pat dry and let completely air dry

  • Apply a very thin layer of ointment, I recommend aquaphor or any tattoo specific brand. Do this for THREE days (if any rash or irritation occurs, wash tattoo and discontinue the use of any ointment)

  • After about three days your tattoo should begin peeling, at this point start to use an unscented lotion, I recommend Eucerin Intensive Repair, to keep your tattoo moisturized. Peeling, flaking, and itching are all normal during the healing process. Do not scratch or pick at your tattoo

  • Once fully healed, this may take up to 4 weeks, apply SPF 30 sunscreen to protect your tattoo daily
